Nekromant es una power trio proveniente de Suecia con un poderoso sonido que evoca al heavy metal y a los gigantes del doom metal como son Black Sabbath y Pentagram. Ahora vuelven con su cuarto Ć”lbum 'Temple Of Haal' que se publicarĆ” el prĆ³ximo 3 de diciembre vĆa Despotz Records. Tuvimos la suerte de hablar con Mattias, su vocalista que amablemente respondiĆ³ a nuestras preguntas.

Hola, gracias por llamarme! Estoy bien, tĆpico miĆ©rcoles de noviembre en Suecia. Desolado.
¿QuĆ© tal estĆ” siendo la acogida de vuestros singles?
Muy bien hasta ahora, creo que los dos temas que elegimos son buenos representantes del Ɣlbum.'The Wood' es una pista rƔpida sin florituras y muy al grano, y 'Behind The Veil Of Eyes' es algo mƔs profunda, larga y la mƔs fria del Ɣlbum. Estoy muy emocionado de compartir el Ɣlbum con todos y tocarlo en directo.
'Temple Of Haal' es vuestro cuarto Ć”lbum, primero con Despotz Records, supongo que trabajando con un sello de tu el paĆs serĆ” todo mucho mĆ”s cĆ³modo. ¿Se conocĆan antes?
De alguna manera lo hicimos, sĆ. Conocimos a Ćmer, el CEO, durante el Sweden Rock Festival en 2016 antes de nuestro concierto. Tuvimos una buena charla pero como acabĆ”bamos de comenzar nuestra carrera, decidimos que quizĆ”s trabajarĆamos junto en un futuro. Ahora ha llegado ese momento y me siento genial. Apenas hemos comenzado a trabajar con Despotz, pero hasta ahora, es impresionante su profesionalidad.
¿CĆ³mo fue el proceso de grabaciĆ³n y escritura del nuevo Ć”lbum?
El proceso de escritura fue mĆ”s o menos el mismo de siempre. Me encanta ese periodo de tiempo cuando un Ć”lbum es terminado, ya que es cuando me pongo a trabajar en cosas nuevas. Nuestros nuevos Ć”lbumes tienden a estar terminados al 50%. incluso antes de que lancemos el "viejo". AsĆ que ahora mismo, estamos viendo el lanzamiento de 'Temple of Haal', pero ya estoy muy inmerso en la escritura del prĆ³ximo.
En cuanto a la grabaciĆ³n, esta fue la primera vez que estuvimos fuera, viviendo en el estudio por dos semanas. En los Ć”lbumes anteriores, trabajĆ”bamos algunos dĆas y despuĆ©s nos Ćbamos a casa. Prefiero vivir en el estudio porque nos proporciona la sensaciĆ³n de inmersiĆ³n, cosa que nos permite envolvernos por completo. Como en nuestros Ć”lbumes anteriores, el Ć”lbum fue grabado en directo y despuĆ©s agregamos solos y las voces.
¿QuĆ© diferencia encontramos en este disco con respecto a vuestro anterior? Me da la sensaciĆ³n de que este tiene mayor contundencia y limpieza en la producciĆ³n.
Estoy de acuerdo. Aunque tenemos la mismas bases que antes, este Ć”lbum es mĆ”s ambicioso con canciones mĆ”s largas y complicadas. Creo que tiene algo que ver con el contenido lĆrico, ya que es dificil de escribir sobre la gran serpiente nĆ³rdica en sĆ³lo tres minutos y con solos de guitarra. Me siento muy agradecido de haber creado un entorno en el que podemos hacer canciones largas y profundas, pero tambiĆ©n temas duros de tan solo tres minutos.
Siempre queremos presionar con respecto a la calidad del sonido,queremos que sea mƔs grueso, mƔs limpio, mƔs fuerte, y mejor. Estoy muy contento con el sonido general de este Ɣlbum.
La palabra Black Sabbath y Pentagram siempre aparecen como vuestras influencias, pero en este caso me inclino mĆ”s hacia la NWOBHM, especialmente en este Ć”lbum. ¿Me equivoco?
Bueno, Black Sabbath siempre serĆ” una gran influencia para nosotros. Dicho esto, solo porque eres influenciado por una banda no significa que debas sonar como ellos. Estoy tan influenciado por la NWOBHM, e incluso algo de black metal, como por Black Sabbath, pero todavĆa lo hacemos nuestro. Pero no te equivocas, nos inclinamos mĆ”s por la NWOBHM y el heavy metal clĆ”sico en este Ć”lbum.
Aunque nuestras raices vienen de Sabbath, nunca hemos sido parte de ese resurgimiento del Stoner y el Doom de estos Ćŗltimos diez aƱos. Siempre hemos sido una bada de Heavy metal pero con un toque ligeramente mĆ”s oscuro.
¿CĆ³mo os ha afectado la pandemia, tenĆ©is fechas cerradas para presentar el disco en directo?
De hecho, estĆ”bamos planeando un pequeƱo descanso de los shows en vivo para escribir este nuevo Ć”lbum cuando la pandemia nos golpeĆ³, por lo que no nos afectĆ³ tanto como a muchos otros. Pero aĆŗn asĆ, no tocamos en directo durante casi 2 aƱos, lo cual es obviamente un gran problema para cualquier banda. Nosotros, como todos los demĆ”s, esperamos que esta mierda termine pronto.
Tenemos una gira prevista para noviembre de 2022 con fechas en Dinamarca y Alemania. Uno solo puede esperar que nada se interponga en nuestro camino, tenemos muchas ganas de presentar nuestro nuevo material en escenario.
¿HabĆ©is estado alguna vez en EspaƱa?
Lamentablemente no. Sin embargo, tenemos una nueva agencia de booking para Europa, por lo que lo mƔs probable es que cambie en 2022.

How is the reception of your singles being?
Very good so far, I feel like the two tracks we chose are good representatives of the album. 'The Woods' being a fast-paced track with zero fat and very much to the point and 'Behind the Veil of Eyes' as the deeper, longer, and colder side of the album. I am very excited both to share the album with everyone and to play it live.
'Temple Of Haal' is your fourth album, first with Despotz Records, I guess working with a label from your country will be more comfortable. Did you know each other before?
We kind of did, yes. We met Ćmer, the CEO, during Sweden Rock Festival in 2016 before our show. We had a good talk but with us being very much in the beginning of our career back then, we decided that we would maybe work together some time in the future. Now that time has come, and it feels great. Our work with Despotz has only just begun, but so far, I ́m impressed by their professionalism.
How was the process of recording and writing the new album?
The writing process was pretty much the same as it always is. I love the period of time when one album in finished so I get to work on new, fresh stuff. Because of that, our new albums tend to be like 50% done before we even release the “old” one. So right now, we are looking at the release for Temple of Haal, but I am way deep into writing the next one.
As for the recording, this was the first time we went away and lived at the studio for 2 weeks. On the previous albums we worked during the days and then went home. I much prefer to live at the studio because of the feeling of immersion it provides, it allows us to the completely wrapped up in the process. Like our previous albums, we recorded it live and added solos and vocals after.
What difference do we find in this album with respect to your previous album? It gives me the feeling of greater forcefulness and cleanliness in the production.
I agree. Though I feel that we have the same foundations as before, this album is more ambitious with longer and more convoluted songs. I think that has something to do with the lyrical content, it’s kind of hard to write a song about the great serpent from Norse mythology in 3 minutes with a guitar solo. I feel very thankful that we have created an environment where we can do long, deep songs but also 3-minute
bangers. We always want to press on regarding sound quality, we always want it fatter, cleaner, louder, and better. I’m very happy with the over all sound of this album.
The word Black Sabbath and Pentagram always appear in your influences, but I lean more towards the NWOBHM, especially on this album. Am I wrong?
Well, Black Sabbath will always be a huge influence on us. With that said, just because you are influenced by a band it doesn’t mean that you must sound like them. I am as much influenced by NWOBHM, and even some black metal, as by Black Sabbath but we still make it our own.

But you’re not wrong, we are leaning more to NWOBHM and more classic heavy metal on this album. Even though wehave our roots in Sabbath, we have never completely been a part of the resurgence of stoner and doom metal that has been going on the last 10 years. In my eyes, we have always been a heavy metal band but with a slightly darker twist.
How has the pandemic affected you, do you already have closed dates to present the album live?
We were actually planning on a small break from live shows to write this new album when the pandemic hit so we were not as affected as many others. But still, we didn’t play live for almost 2 years which is obviously a huge problem for any band. We, as everybody else, are hoping that this bullshit is over soon.
We have a tour planned in November 2022 with dates in Denmark and Germany. One can only hope that nothing comes in the way of that, we are really looking forward to presenting our new material on stage.
Have you been able to come to Spain before?
Unfortunately, no. We do however have a new booking agency for Europe, so that will most likely change in 2022.
