No hay mejor definiciĆ³n para estos austriacos, Beyond Infinity, que con su amalgama de sonidos e influencias han conseguido atraer a una legiĆ³n de fans y llamar la atenciĆ³n de los medios especializados
Con motivo del lanzamiento de su Ć”lbum debut "Welcome to Infinity" bajo el sello Art Gates Records (puedes leer la reseƱa aquĆ), nuestra compaƱera SofĆa Brenner entrevistĆ³ a la banda, cuyos miembros nos respondieron cuestiones acerca del nuevo Ć”lbum, la trayectoria de la banda y sus proyectos mĆ”s futuros.

¡Hola! Antes de nada, muchas
gracias por vuestro tiempo. AcabĆ”is de publicar “Welcome to Infinity”, vuestro
primer disco con Art Gates Records. ¿CĆ³mo ha sido la acogida del disco?
Hola, muchas gracias por
invitarnos a hablar con vosotros. Bueno, recibimos reseƱas dĆa tras dĆa y
parece que a los medios les gusta bastante, lo cual no es tan malo, por
supuesto, jaja. Pero a nuestros fans parece gustarle tambiƩn, lo cual es un
honor incluso mƔs grande para nosotros.
¿DĆ³nde grabasteis el Ć”lbum,
y cĆ³mo fue el proceso de grabaciĆ³n?
Grabamos las guitarras y el
bajo en el pisito de nuestro bajista, en el que habĆa instalado un pequeƱo
estudio de grabaciĆ³n casero. AhĆ tambiĆ©n mezclamos, masterizamos y acabamos el
Ć”lbum. La baterĆa y las voces las grabamos en la sala de ensayo, ya que habĆa
una mejor acĆŗstica.
Contadnos un poco sobre la
temƔtica del Ɣlbum.
Nuestra idea era invitar a
los oyentes a nuestro estilo de mĆŗsica metal y enseƱarles nuestras diversas
facetas. El objetivo era componer canciones que fueran Ćŗnicas en su propio
estilo, para que no se puedan clasificar todas en un gĆ©nero especĆfico (esto es
importante para nosotros). El propio tĆtulo del Ć”lbum deberĆa representar la
entrada a nuestro mundo/estilo musical mientras lo escuchas.
Sois una banda eclƩctica y
podemos observar matices de distintos estilos en vuestras composiciones.
¿CuĆ”les son vuestras principales influencias o quĆ© bandas os han influenciado?
Muchas gracias por eso. Como
cada uno de nosotros cogemos inspiraciĆ³n de distintas bandas y subgĆ©neros, no
pensamos que podamos resumirlo a una sola banda como referencia. De hecho, eso
deberĆa ser tambiĆ©n el objetivo de nuestras composiciones, no imitar a otras
bandas sino crear nuestro propio sonido que sea reconocible y que destaque por
sĆ misma en el mundo de la mĆŗsica.
¿CĆ³mo surgiĆ³ la banda? ¿De
dĆ³nde vino la idea? ¿HabĆ©is formado parte de otras bandas en vuestro paĆs?
Sabemos que venĆs de Austria.
Bueno, solo Ć©ramos tres tĆos
que no se conocĆan entre ellos hasta que uno de nosotros nos juntĆ³, diciendo: «Hey,
conozco a un chico que toca la baterĆa muy bien y nosotros dos podemos tocar la
guitarra, asĆ que ¿por quĆ© no tocamos juntos?». AsĆ que quedamos en el garaje
de nuestro baterĆa (que sigue siendo nuestra sala de ensayo) e improvisamos un
poco, pensando que sonaba bastante bien. AquĆ fue cuando BEYOND INFINITY naciĆ³,
bastante simple, pero nos gustĆ³ la mĆŗsica que creĆ”bamos desde que empezamos.
AdemĆ”s, ninguno de nosotros habĆa tocado en ningĆŗn grupo serio antes, asĆ que
fue algo asombroso que todo funcionara tan bien, jeje.
MƔs adelante nuestro bajista
se uniĆ³ (por suerte es alguien cercano a nuestro baterĆa, asĆ que no tuvo otra
opciĆ³n, jaja) y nuestro guitarrista lĆder actual, Sebastian, reemplazĆ³ al
anterior, que no tenĆa tiempo para seguir con el proyecto. Dato curioso: fue
bastante accidental que decidiƩramos que nuestro frontman Markus se
hiciera cantante de la banda, ya que fue el que menos desafinĆ³ al principio :D.
Austria, a pesar de ser un
paĆs pequeƱo, tiene un gran nĆŗmero de grupos. Contadnos un poco acerca de la
escena allĆ. Sinceramente, quitando grupos clĆ”sicos como SUMMONING o ABIGOR,
sabemos mĆ”s bien poco sobre la escena actual de vuestro paĆs.
Bueno, hay muchas de las
denominadas bandas underground, pero muy pocas consiguen salir del paĆs.
Por desgracia, esto es un problema enorme, tambiƩn para nosotros, pero parece
que la audiencia austriaca no estĆ” tan metida en el metal como nuestros vecinos
checos, donde hay una gran cantidad de festivales pequeƱos que se celebran con
regularidad. Algunas bandas que se nos vienen a la cabeza que son bastante
conocidas fuera del paĆs son DRAGONY y HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY. Los chicos de THE
SHORROW (los conocĆ©is, ¿verdad?) han dejado su carrera hace poco, por
desgracia.
¿La escena musical en
Austria es complicada para las bandas o hay apoyo suficiente?
Como hemos mencionado antes,
el metal no tiene mucha demanda en nuestro paĆs, por lo que es difĆcil llegarle
a tanta gente. Estamos contentos de que algunas asociaciones que se han formado
recientemente estĆ©n intentando cambiar la situaciĆ³n y organizar pequeƱos
conciertos para todas las bandas de metal que hay, pero pensamos que deberĆa
hacerse muchos mĆ”s para que estas bandas se den a conocer al pĆŗblico.
Participasteis en la final
del Wacken Metal Battle de vuestro paĆs y llegasteis a la final. ¿CĆ³mo fue la
experiencia?
Tocar con tantas bandas con
talento fue, por supuesto, una gran experiencia, y tambiĆ©n se demostrĆ³ que la
escena en Austria no estĆ” muerta aĆŗn. HabrĆa sido maravilloso y un sueƱo para
nosotros haber ganado y haber tocado en el legendario festival Wacken, pero la
banda que ganĆ³, DRAGONY, es sin duda uno de los mejores grupos que tenemos en
Austria ahora mismo y merecĆan ganar.
¿TenĆ©is ya fechas para presentar
vuestro nuevo Ɣlbum?
Hace poco dimos un concierto
de presentaciĆ³n en nuestra ciudad, Linz, que fue bastante bueno. Ahora nos
vamos a tomar un descanso durante el verano y daremos algunos conciertos por
Austria.
¿AƱadirĆ©is fechas fuera de
vuestro paĆs? Y en caso de que sĆ, ¿tenĆ©is pensado venir a EspaƱa?
Claro que nos gustarĆa dar
tantos conciertos como fuera posible, pero no es tan fƔcil llevar adelante un
grupo (sobre todo con el nivel en el que nos encontramos ahora mismo), ademƔs
de nuestros trabajos. AsĆ que actualmente no hay ninguna gira grande planeada.
Hay algunos conciertos en Austria, pero nos gustarĆa mucho tocar fuera – ¡en
especial en EspaƱa!

Hello! First of all, thank you very much for your
time. You have just released "Welcome to Infinity", your first album
with Art Gates Records. How was the reception of the album?
Hey there, thank you for inviting us to talk with you!
Well, we get reviews day by day and it seems that the media likes it quite
much, which is not that bad of course, haha. But our fans seem to like it as
well, which is an even bigger honour for us!
Where did you record the album and how was the
recording process?
We recorded the guitars and the bass at our bassist's
little flat, where he installed a small home recording studio. Over there the
album was also mixed, mastered and finished. The drums and the vocals were
recorded in our band room, where we had a better acoustic for that.
Tell us a little about the theme of the album.
Our idea was to invite the listeners into our style of
metal music and to show them our many different facets. The goal was to write
songs which are all unique in their own way, so you cannot put them all into a
specific genre (which is very important to us). The album title itself should
represent the entrance into our world/style of music, while listening to it.
You are an eclectic band and we can observe nuances of
different styles in your compositions. What are your main influences or bands
that have influenced you?
Thank you very much for that. As everyone of us gets
influenced and inspired by quite different bands and subgenres, we do not think
we could narrow it down to one band being a reference. That should actually
also be the goal of our song writing, to not mimic other bands but create an
own sound which is recognizable and stands a little bit alone in the world of
music.
How did the band start? Where did the idea come from?
Had you belonged to previous bands of your country? We know that you come from
Austria.
Well, we were just three guys who did not know from
each other until one of us brought us together, saying: 'Hey, I know this guy
who plays drums very well and we both can play guitar, so why don’t we just
perform with each other?' So we met at our drummer's garage (which is still our
rehearsal room) and jammed a little bit, thinking that it sounded very nice.
Here was when BEYOND INFINITY was born, quite simple, but we liked the music we
created from the start. No one of us had played in a serious band before, so it
was a bit astonishing that this worked so well, hehe.
Later on our bassist joined us (conveniently our
drummer was related to him, so he had no other option, haha) and our current
lead guitarist Sebastian replaced the former one, who had no time left for our
project anymore. Fun fact: it was rather accidentally decided that our frontman
Markus should take the singing position, since he produced the fewest off-key
notes at the beginning :D.
Despite being a small country, Austria has a large
number of bands. Tell us a bit about the scene there. Besides some classic
bands like SUMMONING or ABIGOR we have little knowledge of the current scene of
your country.
Well, there are a lot of so called 'underground bands'
around, but very few that accomplish the step outside the country.
Unfortunately, this is really a huge problem, of course also for us, but it
seems that the Austrian audience is not that into metal music as maybe our
Czech neighbours, where a big amount of small metal festivals take place
regularly. Bands who come to our mind which are quite famous outside our
country are DRAGONY and HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY. The guys from THE SORROW (you
know them, right?) have unfortunately quit their career recently.
Is the music scene in Austria complicated for the
bands or is there enough support?
As mentioned before, metal music is unfortunately not a
big deal in our country, which makes it difficult to reach that many people. We
are happy that some small associations have been formed recently, which try to
change that situation and organize small gigs for the many metal bands we have.
But in our opinion, much more should be done to allow these bands to present
themselves to the public.
You participated in the Wacken Metal Battle of your
country and you reached the final. How was the experience?
It was of course a great experience playing with that
many talented bands. It was also proved that the scene in Austria is not dead
yet! It would have been a big deal and dream for us winning the contest and
playing at the legendary Wacken Festival. But the winner band, DRAGONY, is
clearly one of the best metal acts we have in Austria right now and are worthy
winners!
Do you have any upcoming dates to present your new
album?
We recently had our release show in our hometown Linz,
which was a quite good one. We have now a break during summer and will be
playing some concerts around in Austria.
Will there be dates outside of your country? And in
that case, do you have plans to come to Spain?
Of course we would like to play as many concerts as
possible, but it is not so easy to run a band (on the level on which we are),
besides our main jobs. So there is not a big tour planned at the moment. There
are a few concerts in our home country Austria, but we would really like to
play outside - especially Spain would be nice to visit!
