Con la inminente gira europea que traerá Metallica a España este próximo viernes a Madrid y el domingo en Barcelona , nuestra compañera Sofia ha aprovechado para entrevistar a Jorn, vocalista y Guitarrista de Bokassa, la banda noruega que abrirá junto con Ghost para los de de San Francisco en su Worldwired Tour 2019

¡Hola! Antes de nada, muchísimas gracias por concedernos esta
entrevista. Suponemos que staréis super ocupados con la gira europea de Metallica.
Sí, ¡ocupados pero muy emocionados!
Venís desde Noruega y os estáis abriendo camino en la escena. ¿Qué nos
podéis contar sobre Bokassa?
¡Bokassa somos un powertrio
(guitarra eléctrica, bajo eléctrico y batería) que repartimos riffs, caña y
libertad!
¿Qué es el famoso estilo denominado Stoner punk? ¿De dónde os vienen
vuestras influencias?
Somos una
mezcla única de buenos riffs de stoner rock y metal con coros punkies y
rockeros y la agresividad del hardcore. Escuchamos de todo, desde NOFX y Bad
Religion a Clutch, Fu Manchu y Entombed, así que supongo que ha sido una
evolución natural.
Desde que la banda empezó en 2013, habéis grabado dos EPs y en 2017 sale
a la luz vuestro primer álbum, Divide
& Conquer, que tuvo una crítica bastante buena. Estabais promocionando
vuestro disco y de la noche a la mañana, Lars Ulrich de Metallica os menciona
en su programa de radio y os invita a su próximo concierto en Noruega. ¿Qué tal
la experiencia y el encuentro con la banda?
Fue brutal, una experiencia fantástica. Todos crecimos
escuchando Metallica y nos encantan, así que conocer a Lars Ulrich fue un
honor. También nos emborrachamos en el backstage
y disfrutamos del concierto. Increíble.
Pero, es más, la banda os invita a girar con ellos y con Ghost. ¿Qué pensasteis
al principio? ¿Pensasteis que podría haber sido una broma?
Pensaba que era una broma telefónica cuando recibí la
llamada, así que colgué. Pero por suerte no lo fue, así que después montamos un
fiestón y nos emborrachamos, como solemos hacer.
¿Como afrontáis la gira? Suponemos que es una oportunidad única para la promoción
de la banda. ¿Qué expectativas tenéis de cara al futuro?
Pensamos que va a ser la experiencia de nuestras vidas.
Vamos a publicar nuestro álbum Crimson
Riders este verano, y con suerte conseguiremos nuevos fans que vendrán a
vernos de nuevo a finales de este año, cuando volvamos en nuestro tour europeo.
Tenéis dos fechas en España con Metallica y Ghost, pero habeis añadido
una fecha más en Sevilla, llevando vuestro propio show. ¿Cuál fue el motivo de
hacer una fecha más? ¿Teníais ganas de presentar un show integro vuestro en un
sitio pequeño fuera de estadios? Siempre habéis dicho que sois una banda underground Noruega.
Hemos añadido algunas fechas solo nosotros porque teníamos
días libres. Preferimos tocar en lugar de esperar a que llegue el día siguiente.

¿Habíais estado antes en España? ¿Qué esperáis del público español?
Nunca hemos tocado en España antes, pero he visto al grupo
Accidente tocar varias veces cuando he estado en España y siempre ha sido
increíble. ¡Mucha energía por parte del público!
Hace poco presentasteis el single 'Mouthbreakers Inc' de vuestro próximo disco Crimson
Rider. ¿Qué tal fue la acogida? ¿Qué nos podéis contar de este nuevo
trabajo que publicáis el 21 de junio?
‘Mouthbreakers Inc.’ ha tenido una gran acogida por parte
del mismo Lars Ulrich, que lo ha descrito como «una puta pasada». Así que
esperamos que tenga una buena acogida. El álbum es una mezcla energética de
todo, desde riffs potentes, estribillos pegadizos, riffs más pesados, y
canciones que van desde el stoner-rock hasta el metal punk. Algo para todo el
mundo.
¿Tocareis temas nuevos en directo durante la gira con Metallica? Por
otro lado, ¿qué nos podemos esperar en un concierto de Bokassa?
Sí, tocaremos tres canciones nuevas en esta primera parte.
Podéis esperar mucha energía y pasar un rato estupendo, además de tres personas
que trabajan mucho para que todo el mundo disfrute del show.

Hello! First of all, thank
you very much for the interview. We imagine that you must be really busy with
the upcoming European tour with Metallica.
Yes,
busy but really excited!
You come from Norway and
are making your way in the scene. What can you tell us about Bokassa?
Bokassa is a powertrio who delivers riffs,
breakdowns and freedom!
How would you describe
your style, Stoner Punk? Where do these influences come from?
We combine big riffs from stoner rock and
metal with big choruses from punk and rock and the aggression from hardcore to
our own unique blend. We listen to everything from NOFX and Bad Religion to
Clutch, Fu Manchu and Entombed so I guess it´s just a natural progression.
It was so cool, a fantastic experience. We all
grew up listening to Metallica and love them, so to meet Lars Ulrich was an
honour. And we also got to drink backstage and watch the show. Awesome.
What is more, Metallica
has invited you to tour with them and Ghost! What did you think at first? Did
you think it could be a joke?
I thought it was a prank call when I got the
call, so I hung up. But luckily it was not, and after we heard we had a big party
and got drunk, as one does.
What are your thoughts
about the tour? We can imagine the tour is a unique opportunity to promote
Bokassa. What are your prospects for the future?
Our thoughts are that it’s gonna be the ride
of a liftetime. We are releasing our album Crimson
Riders this summer and hopefully we will get some new fans who will come
see us again later this year when we return on our European tour.
You will be playing two
dates in Spain with Metallica and Ghost, but you have also added another date
in Sevilla as headliners. What was the reason for adding a new date? Did you
wanted to headline in a small venue instead of big stadiums? You have always
claimed to be an underground band from Norway.
We added some shows ourselves because of the
off days. We might as well just be playing instead of just waiting for the next
day. We love to play!
Have you played in Spain
before? What do you expect from the Spanish audience?
Never played in Spain before, but I have seen
the band Accidente play quite a few times when I have been in Spain and that
was always awesome and a lot of energy from the audience!
Not long ago, you released
‘Mouthbreathers Inc’, a song from your upcoming album Crimson Rider. How was the reception of the song? What can you tell
us about the album, which will be released the 21st of June?
“Mouthbreathers Inc.” has had a great
reception with Lars Ulrich himself calling it “fucking rocking”. So we have
hoped for a better reception. The album will be an energetic blend of
everything from big riffs, catchy choruses, metal riffs, groovy stoner
rock-tracks to aggressive metal punk. Something for everyone.
Will you play new songs
live on this tour? What can we expect in a Bokassa show?
Yes, we will play three new songs on the first
leg! You can expect a lot of energy and a really good time and three people how
work hard to get everyone to have a great show!
